If you think you see with just your eyes you’re mad
A blindfold clay sculpture workshop:
* wrap a selection of random small handheld objects in fabric (to be used later for blindfolds)
* ask students to draw the object by ‘feel’ - to sense the shape of the object just by touching it
* unwrap the object and draw it again - looking closely at the object this time
* recreate a version of the object in clay, blindfolded
This was an interesting exercise - using touch rather than sight to 'see' the object and shape the clay helped the students to relax and create more expressive outcomes - the process encouraged everyone to think 3-dimensionally and explore the depth/weight/texture of an object as well as the outline...
